When my family was trying to decide which campsites we were going to visit in 2020, the suggestions were all over the place. From California to New York, the list was endless and many of the campsites looked spectacular. After traveling and camping extensively in many states over the years, I put together this list of some of the top campsites I’ve had the pleasure to visit and those that my family would focus on to narrow down our camping vacation for 2020.
The best camping spots for 2020 that we ended up considering were Enchanted Rock near Fredericksburg, Texas, Yosemite National Park in California, Long Pine Key Campgrounds in the Everglades of Florida, and Hot Springs National Park in Arkansas.
Below is a list of the top 10 campgrounds for 2020 and the information we gathered for each.
1) Enchanted Rock – Fredericksburg, Texas
Enchanted Rock is a large granite outcrop situated in the Texas Hill Country that attracts thousands of visitors each year. An hour and a half drive from Austin, it offers scenic views and great camping opportunities. Other activities include nature trails, hiking, rock climbing, and fishing.
Walk-in tent campsites feature 35 camping spots for up to 8 people each. These camp sites are situated at the base of Enchanted Rock itself for easy access and great family camping opportunities.
Other amenities include:
- Picnic tables
- Outdoor grills
- Fire rings
- Tent pads
- Water nearby
- Lantern posts
- Tent camping only
- Restrooms with showers nearby
Texas Parks and Wildlife Department oversees the park and requires an $18 fee per campsite which can be paid at the park headquarters. The park also features primitive camping sites that are 1-3 miles from parking areas for those wanting to escape even more.
The park is extremely accessible, as is the large granite outcrop which gives it its name. Enchanted Rock itself is a staple for class field trips and ranks high as one of the best places to camp with toddlers. Most people can make it to the top of the granite outcrop with ease for an awesome view of the surrounding hill county.
Enchanted Rock is our pick for the top camping site for 2020.

2) Yosemite National Park, California
California has a host of great remote camping opportunities, and Yosemite National Park is one of the top travel destinations. Situated in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, it’s known for its granite cliff walls and large Sequoia Trees. Yosemite has 13 campgrounds with close to 1000 various camp sites. From tent camping to RV camping, they can accommodate just about everyone. Due to Yosemite’s popularity, camp sites can fill up months in advance, so it’s always a good idea to avoid last minute plans to camp here.
Campsite fees range from $6-26, and amenities like showers, bathrooms, and utilities vary greatly depending on which campsite you are at. Again, plan way in advance for any camping trip to Yosemite to avoid unforeseen hassles due to the park filling up with campers during peak season. With that said, Yosemite offers campsites with excellent facilities.
Some of the top activities at Yosemite include:
- Art and Photography
- Horse Riding
The outdoor opportunities at Yosemite are endless. Every year it ranks high in the top 10 places to camp, and for good reason. The views are breathless and the park is large enough to escape on your own if you wish. Yosemite is a top campsite destination every year for good reason, you will not be disappointed.
