Interested in buying a new single pin bow sight for hunting in 2022? Here are a few things to look for that will help you choose the right one.

After switching to the Bowtech Prodigy compound bow I was in search of a new single pin bow sight that could put arrows on target with precision accuracy. My only limitations were that it had to be lightweight, single pin, and quickly adjustable in the field.

These are the Top 3 Single Pin Bow Sights for 2022:

Let’s face it, finding a good single pin bow sight isn’t always easy. I’ve gone through countless sights trying to find the best one that could not only produce repeatable results, but quickly adjust to different ranges.

After years of bow hunting, these are the top 3 single pin bow sights that ended up being great investments and have the best design to provide repeatable results in the field.

These are the three single pin bow sights you should consider in 2022:

HHA Optimizer Lite Ultra 5000 (click to check the price at Amazon) – The HHA 5019 Optimizer is my go-to single pin bow sight. I have it mounted on my Bowtech Prodigy and its work extremely well so far. This sight is easy to adjust and the color coded tapes make for quick yardage indicators. At 10.4 ounces, I barely even notice it’s there when I’m at full draw. This is my top pick.
TRUGLO Range-Rover PRO LED (click to check the price at Amazon) – The Truglo Range-Rover is the brightest single pint bow sight I’ve ever used. It also has 11 different brightness settings that can adapt to changing light conditions. It features a green LED aiming point and easily adjustable yardage marks.

Cabela’s Supreme One-Pin Slider Sight (click to check the price at Cabelas) – This is the single pin sight I have on my PSE Bow and I initially bought it because it was the cheapest I could find. It ended up being a good purchase as it’s functioned comparably to the more expensive sights. The windage and elevation are really easy to adjust and it’s been an accurate sight overall. This is your budget option.

Why I Picked the HHA Optimizer Lite Ultra 5000

When you sit down and compare the HHA Optimizer Lite Ultra 5000 to the TRUGLO Range-Rover PRO LED and Cabela’s Supreme One-Pin Slider Sight, the differences are noticeable.

  • The HHA Optimizer Lite Ultra 5000 only needs to be sighted in at 20 yards and 60 yards for it to be on target from 20 to 80 yards.
  • The HHA Optimizer is lightweight at only 10.4 ounces. I barely even noticed the added weight when I first installed it.
  • The yardage tapes for the HHA Optimizer Lite Ultra are easy to use and apply for each distance. They are also waterproof so they won’t come off in bad weather.
  • The HHA Optimizer Lite Ultra 5000 has an aluminum frame that’s super durable and even when banged against something, it retains its accuracy and the pins stay protected.
  • The HHA Optimizer 500 fiber optic sight is bright enough to be seen really well during low light conditions right at shooting time.
  • The HHA Optimizer Lite Ultra 5000 has brass gears that allow for smooth adjustments with no noise that can spook game.

Here is a great clip of what you can expect to achieve with a good single pin bow sight for hunting.

Features to look for in a quality single pin bow sight:

  • Single pin bow sights should be easy to sight in. The best single pin sights only require two distances for it to be sighted in at before it can be adjusted for all ranges.
  • Lightweight single pin bow sights reduce fatigue from holding the bow for long periods of time before you take the shot. Less than 11 ounces is ideal for a single pin sight.
  • Yardage tapes that are easy to apply, can be set accurately, and can be easily seen while hunting.
  • A bright fiber optic pin that can be seen in low light conditions. Adjustable sight pins are even better as it allows you to adjust the pin brightness for any situation.
  • Durable outer housing that will protect the pin and prevent loss of accuracy.
  • Quiet design and operation.
  • Wind and elevation adjustments.

About Single Pin Bow Sights for Hunting

Single pin bow sights are relatively new for hunting, but help add a level of accuracy that was never really capable with multiple pin sights without a ton of practice. Single pin bow sights allow you to make fast adjustments and be on target with consistency from 20 yards all the way up to 80 yards using only one sight pin.

Below are the most popular types of bow sights and why you should consider them when looking for a new sight for your bow.

Types of Bow Hunting Sights

  • Single Pin Bow Hunting Sights – Single pin bow sights feature one pin that can be adjusted for any range. Simply adjust the range knob to a predetermined distance and you’re ready for the shot.
  • Multiple Pin Bow Hunting Sights – Multiple pin bow sights range from 3 to 5 pins with each pin being sighted in at a certain distance.
  • Range Finder Multi-Pin Sights – Range finder sights have a range finder fully integrated into the sight and multiple pins to make judging distance and pin use even easier.

My first experience with bow hunting was with a multi-pin sight and I used one for over 10 years before finally giving in to the newer single pin sight. Don’t get me wrong, I was plenty accurate enough with the multi-pin, but the single pin really took a lot of the guess work out of the equation.

The multi-pin sight is extremely easy to use and I always recommend it to new hunters just starting out. Being able to put arrows on target for such a wide range of distances with only one pin saves a bunch of time at the range and increases confidence on tough shots in the field.

Bow sights with the range finder fully integrated takes even more guess work out of the equation and paired up with an accurate pin, is a deadly combo. Having the range finder in the bow sight itself reduces the chance game will spook if they see you fumbling around with a traditional range finder.

Why it’s important to have a good single pin bow sight for hunting

Having a good single pin bow sight is extremely important for fast and accurate shots. Recently I was hog hunting and decided I would take my bow which had the HHA Optimizer single pin sight mounted on it.

After not seeing much all morning, a pack of 20 hogs decided to come through all at once, making their way slowly by my tree stand. I stood up slowly and adjusted my single pin sight for 30 yards and let loose on the first pig.

I stuck him good, but he made a squeal and the other pigs decided to bolt in all directions. I quickly grabbed another arrow and just as I did, one hog stopped to look back at 60 yards. I adjusted my single pin sight and let another arrow fly hitting the hog a little further back than I would have liked, but it ended up doing the trick.

Having a good single pin bow sight that I could adjust easily and quickly allowed me to get multiple accurate shots off on this group of hogs that would have been more difficult with other types of sights. If you’re thinking about purchasing a new bow sight, check out the single pin sights, you won’t be disappointed.
